Car hit with bullets as gunman opens fire on police in west Belfast

DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch are continuing to quiz two men arrested for the attempted murder of three police officers.

Up to six shots were fired as the PSNI officers got out of their car at Foxes Glen in Twinbrook on May 16.

The officers were responding to bogus reports of a burglary in the area.

However it was a deadly trap and as the officers alighted from the vehicle the gunmen opened fire.

None of the officers were injured by a parked car was struck by a number of bullets.

The two men, aged 20 and 21, were detained in Lisburn city, Co Antirm on Friday morning.

They are being quizzed at the serious crime suite in Antrim about the attempted murder of the officer, conspiracy to murder and possession of firearms.

They are the third persons to be detained over the murder bid.

The day after the shooting a 26-year-old man was arrested in west Belfast for questioning but was later released unconditionally.
