THE PSNI are at the centre of a security operation in Belfast City Centre on Friday evening.

As revellers were heading to Christmas parties, police were alerted to a small explosion in the Cathedral Quarter off Donegall Street.

Army technical officers have been tasked to the scene and police are erecting cordons to divert pedestrians and motorists away from the area.

There are further details at present but there no initial reports of injuries at this stage.
