Police at the scene of a security alert in south Belfast seized a gun

POLICE seized a gun during a security in south Belfast today.

The weapon was found in a car searched by police at Kingsway, Dunmurry.

Army technical officers examined the weapon before declaring the area safe.

As a result, the PSNI re-opened a section of Kingsway and lifted several road diversions in the area.

The PSNI say a firearm and a car have been seized for forensic examination.

No reports have been made but police inquiries are continuing.
