Police say ‘viable pipe bomb’ made safe in west Belfast

THE PSNI say a pipe bomb found in west Belfast earlier day was a lethal and “viable device”.

Officers had to evacuate several families from their homes after the discovery of a suspicious object in Cavanmore Gardens.

However, the nearby De La School was not affected during the alert.

Army technical officers were tasked to the scene on Tuesday morning and sent in a robot to examine the suspicious object.

Evacuated residents have since been allowed to return home.
