Detectives appeal for information after man shot in buttock by dissident gunmen

DETECTIVES are hunting dissident republican gunmen who shot a teenager in west Belfast.

It is the latest in a series of shooting incidents by both Oglaigh na hEireann (ONH) and a group called itself the ‘New IRA’.

Two masked men shot the 19-year-old in the buttock at New Barnsley Gardens around 2.30 pm on Saturday afternoon.

Paramedics rushed the victim to the Royal Victoria Hospital for non life threatening injuries.

Detectives have appealed for information about the attack.

They say the two masked men, dressed in dark clothing, fled toward Vere Foster Walk.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the PSNI’s CID in west Belfast on 0845 600 8000 or alternatively via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Almost a fortnight ago, the ‘New IRA’ shot dead north Belfast drug dealer Kevin Kearney as he walked his dogs.

The body of the 46-year-old was found in a lake in Alexandra Park.
