DETECTIVES have charged a 17-year-old youth with rape.

The charge relates to a serious sexual assault near the former Belfast City Council owned Maysfield Leisure Centre in Belfast on Hallowe’en night, October 31, last year.

Police at the time revealed that a 16-year-old girl had been raped near the building in East Bridge Street by two men who were dressed in Hallowe’en costumes.

Detectives from the PSNI’s Rape Crime Unit based at Ladas Drive in east Belfast later issued a description of the two attackers.

The first man was wearing black and white striped trousers with a blazer and a white top hat.

His accomplice was wearing a black suit with a black shirt and is described as being in his late teens, of slim build with brown eyes and short brown hair.

The youth is due to appear at Belfast Juvenile Court on Monday, October 28.
