Detectives in Castlereagh arrested a 30-year-old man over a shop knife robbery

DETECTIVES are quizzing a man who was arrested over a robbery after bystanders fingered him to police.

The 30-year-old suspect was detained on Wednesday evenign following the incident at a shop in Saintfield Road area of east Belfast.

Police received a report around 9.30 pm that a man armed with a knife went into a shop and fled with a sum of cash.

He was described asĀ bald and wearing a hooded top with a scarf covering his face.

When a PSNI response unit arrived, hawk-eyed members of the public identified the suspect who was spotted a short distance away.

The man was arrested and knife was later recovered from a nearby drain.

Detectives at Castlereagh CID have appealed for anyone who witnessed this incident to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
