DETECTIVES arrested two men on Sunday over a suspected murder bid with a sword in north Belfast.

A 35-year-old man was viciously assaulted during an aggravated burglary in Ballysillan.

Two men – one armed with a sword and the other with a knife – broke into his Alliance Court home around 2.50 am on Sunday morning.

The armed men fled in a silver transit van in the direction of Ligoneil.

The victim was taken to hospital but was later released.

Two suspects – aged 26 and 28 – were being quizzed on suspicion of attempted murder.

Det Ch Insp Alan Little said: “I would ask anyone that has any information about this incident to please contact CID on 0845 600 8000.
