Police say a number of people injured following suspected gas cylinder explosion in Co Antrim

HEALTH and safety chiefs have launched a probe after a number of people were injured in a suspected gas cylinder explosion yesterday.

It is believed a digger working at commercial premises on Mallusk Road, Glengormley struck a gas cylinder around 1o am.

Sources told Belfast Daily that the cylinder was then sent hurtling towards a nearby office building.

“There was a hell of a bag,” a source told Belfast Daily.

“People came out of the office and were very dazed after the explosion.”

Police called to the scene said there were several casualties following the explosion.

“All were described as walking wounded,” said a spokeswoman.

The Health & Safety Executive (HSENI) is heading up the investigation.
