Detectives arrest man over ONH dissident republican terrorist activity in Belfast

DETECTIVES investigating dissident republican terrorist activity swooped on Friday morning to arrest a man.

The 51-year-old man was detained in Belfast by officers from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch during a dawn raid.

He is being questioned at the serious crime suite in Antrim about terrorist activities in the Greater Belfast area.

Belfast Daily understands his arrest is in connection with the banned group Oglaigh na hEireann (ONH).

In recent years the terror gang has:

* tried to kill three cops and two soldiers with undercar boobytrap (UCBT) bombs;

* tried to detonate a bomb by mobile phone on a north Belfast cycle path;

* and tried to launch a mortar bomb by remote control into a west Belfast police station.

And in recent weeks it has also been behind a number of punishment style shootings in north and west Belfast against alleged drug dealers.
