Detectives probe pipe bomb attack in New Lodge district of north Belfast

DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch have launched an investigation over a bomb attack in north Belfast.

A pipe bomb device was at the front door of a house in Carlisle Square in the New Lodge district around 10.30 pm on Thursday night.

Local people also reported hearing a number of shots following the bomb attack.

Heavily armed officers from a Tactical Support Unit arrived around an hour later to carry out a follow up search.

Three people who were in the house at the time escaped injury. Minor damage was caused to the front door of the property.

One theory being investigated is that the attack may have been the result of a local feud.

Detectives have appealed appealed for anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
