Detectives investigating a murder bid on a PSNI officer in Dungannon six years ago have released three suspects

DETECTIVES from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch have released three dissident republican suspects held over an investigatiion into the attempted murder of a police officer.

The men, aged 36, 37 and 41, were arrested during a planned operation in County Antrim on Wednesday morning.

The police officer was sitting in his car at traffic lights on the Circular Road in Dungannon, Co Tyrone on November 12, 2007 when it was raked with gunfire.

Despite being seriously injured, the officer was able to drive back to his police station for assistance and medical attention.

Detectives took the three suspects to the Serious Crime Suite in Antrim for questioning about the murder bid.

Following several hours of questioning, they have now been freed pending a report to the director of the Public Prosecution Service.
