Army technical officers carry out a controlled explosion in south Belfast on Friday evening

POLICE have evacuated up to 100 houses in south Belfast over a security alert.

The PSNI called in Army Technical Officers as the alert got underway.

The scene around Notting Hill Manor, off the Malone Road, has been sealed off where a suspect vehicle and a suspect device have been discovered.

The ATO has carried out a controlled explosion has been carried out by the army.

Malone Road has been closed.

Diversions are in place at Cadogan Park, Marlborough Park and Cranmore Park. Motorists are being advised to see an alternative route.
