Teen remanded in custody charged with trying to kill his friend at a house party

A TEENAGER has faced a court charged with trying to kill his friend at a drink and drugs house party.

Caolan Coleman, of Castle Lane Lurgan, is accused of attempting to murder his 23-year-old friend Paul Cassidy.

Mr Cassidy is in a coma in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

He is critically ill but stable at the moment.

The murder bid happened around 3.30 am on Thursday morning at a house in Liscorran Court.

A court heard that Coleman allegedly attacked his friend with a golf club on Thursday at a leaving him with serious injuries to his head and face.

A solicitor for the 18-year-old accused told Lisburn Magistrate’s Court that both men had been drinking and taking substances and both were “quite out of it” at the time of the alleged attack.

Judge Amanda Henderson said it was clearly a “very serious assault”.

Bail was refused and Coleman was remanded in custody to Hydebank Young Offenders Centre.
