THE security alert in south Belfast has ended.

Earlier, a controlled explosion was carried out during the alert on Friday morning.

Police were called to investigate following reports of a suspicious object in the Tates Avenue area.

The area was closed to traffic at the Ebor Street roundabout.

Army technical officers carried out the controlled explosion.

The examination is now over and all roads in the area have reopened.

Meanwhile a security alert on the Shore Road at Greenisland in Co Antrim has ended after nothing suspicious was found.

The area has been reopened to traffic.
