A police cordon is erected at Tates Avenue on Friday morning

A CONTROLLED explosion has been carried out during a security alert in south Belfast on Friday morning.

Police are investigating following reports of a suspicious object in the Tates Avenue area on Friday morning.

The area has been closed to traffic at the Ebor Street roundabout.

Army technical officers carried out the controlled explosion. The examination is ongoing.

Meanwhile a security alert on the Shore Road at Greenisland in Co Antrim has ended after nothing suspicious was found.

The area has been reopened to traffic.
