Mark H Durkan is new Environment Minister

SDLP leader Dr Alasdair McDonnell has confirmed Mark H Durkan as the new Minister for Environment.

He will replace Alex Attwood from Tuesday evening as part of a reshuffle of its only minister in the Stormont Executive.

It has been a busy week for the Derry MLA. At the weekend he married his fiancee Anne.

The SDLP politician has represented the Northland area since 2005 on Derry City Council.

As well as chairing Derry City Council’s Planning, Policy and Resources Committee and the Environmental Services Committee, Mark has been a member of the Western Education and Library Board and the Health and Social Services Council.

His party profiles says he hails from he Glen Road in the city and is involved in community groups in Ballymagroarty, Hazelbank and Rosemount.

“Mark is determined to bring about economic growth and employment in Derry by helping to maximise Derry tourism potential.”

 

 

Mark has a nine-year-old son, Luke, and is a fan of soccer and GAA.

 

Mark was elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly in 2011 and is the party’s social development spokesperson.
