PSNI used its ‘Hawkeye’ helicopter during car fire on M1 motorway

MOTORISTS were caught up in a lunchtime traffic snarl-up after a car went on fire.

The country-bound lane of the M1 outside Lisburn was choked with traffic as a result, with tailbacks all the way to Belfast.

The PSNI launched its ‘Hawkeye’ helicopter to observe the scene and direct officers on the ground.

It is not yet known how the fire started.

Emergency services attended the scene and the blaze was extinguished.

The road, which was closed at the Saintfield Road Junction 6, has since re-opened to allow traffic to return to normal.
