Detectives have charged a man and teenage girl over incidents in Antrim this week

A MAN has been charged with  attempted robbery over a series of incidents in Antrim this week.

He is also accused of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

He will face Antrim Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, July 16.

A 16-year-old girl was also charged with attempted robbery.

She will appear at Antrim Youth Court on Monday,  July 8.

Officers were called to the Railway Street area of the town around 1.30 pm on Wednesday afternoon.

Following a search of the area, a man was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, theft, criminal damage and attempted robbery.

A 16-year-old girl was also arrested in the Riverside area of the town over the attempted robbery.

It is understood the assault related to an incident in Donore Crescent around 7 am in which a man suffered injuries to his face.

The 20-year-old was also being quizzed about:

* theft and criminal damage of alcohol from a lorry parked in High Street around midday.

* and the attempted robbery at a store in High Street that happened around 1.35pm.
