Police charged man after young girl knocked by motorbike

A 23-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily injury following a hit and run in Derry.

He was arrested after a young girl was knocked down in the crash.

The girl, aged seven, sustained serious injuries.

Paramedics tended to her at the scene before rushing her by ambulance to Altnagvelvin hospital for treatment following the incident involving a blue motorcycle.

The PSNI say she was struck at Creggan Heights around 7.40pm on Friday evening.

The man is also charged with driving without a licence and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

A 21-year-old man arrested on Saturday has been released on bail.

The 23-year-old man is due to appear before Derry Magistrates Court on Monday.

Police have appealed to anyone who was in the area and witnessed the accident or has any information as to the whereabouts of the blue motorcycle to contact them at Strand Road on 0845 600 8000.
