DISSIDENT GROUP ONH BEHIND DOUBLE SHOOTINGS IN WEST BELFAST

Leadership of Oglaigh who are backing prison breakout plan

ONH carried out two gun attacks in Turf Lodge, west Belfast on Thursday

DETECTIVES are investigating two gun attacks carried out a dissident republican group in the same part of west Belfast.

Oglaigh na hEireann (ONH), which split away from the Real IRA, carried out both attacks, is said to be stepping up attacks against those it has branded as “anti-social elements”.

Belfast Daily first reported earlier today that a man was shot in the leg in the Turf Lodge on Thursday evening.

We revealed that ONH had accused the victim of being a house breaker and a car thief, claims he denied.

Police have now confirmd that an 18-year-old was shot once in the right leg during the so-called “punishment shooting” around 8.10pm in Turf Lodge.

He is currently in the Royal Victoria Hospital receiving treatment.

Police are checking claims that a shot was fired a man in the Falls Park on Thursday evening.

On Thursday morning, two ONH gunmen burst into a house at Avoca Close in the Turf Lodge and fired a shot at a man.

The round missed and the two gunmen fled in the direction of the Upper Springfield Road.

The attack was condemned by both the SDLP and Sinn Fein.
