Police probe robbery bid on elderly couple in Newtownabbey

DETECTIVES are on trail of an intruder who threatened an elderly couple with a crowbar at their Newtownabbey home.

The burglar forced his way into the property at Mallusk Road on Friday at around 10pm.

However, the thief fled empty-handed after he was chased from the house by the elderly man.

The intruder was described as wearing black clothing with a hood.

He left the house and got into a red Rover car which was waiting nearby, a police spokesperson said.

The vehicle made off in the direction of Templepatrick.

Detectives would ask anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area, or who has any information about this incident, to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
