DUP MP Gregory Campbell launches petition to save Limavady care home

THE DUP’s East Londonderry MP Gregory Campbell and Limavady MLA George Robinson have joined with local council colleagues to launch a petition to save Thackeray Place care and residential home in Limavady.

It is earmarked for closure by the Western Trust.

However, the final say on whether it shuts or not rests with DUP Health Minister Edwin Poots MLA.

In a statement on Thursday, the DUP politicians said: “We have launched a petition to save this much needed and valuable piece of Limavady’s care infrastructure.

“In the wake of the Western Trust’s announcement they are proposing to close Thackeray Place we have drafted this petition so that everyone who is committed to the retention of Thackeray Place can register their opposition.

“There will be a public consultation by the Western Trust on this proposal and the petition will be a part of that.

“We would also urge people to object personally and in writing to the Western Trust and in the next few days we intend to have a draft letter of objection available at our constituency office.

“A comrehensive case in defence of the Home is already being prepared and will be presented to the Trust shortly.

“It is essential that as many names as possible from all backgrounds are collected so the Trust can be aware of the full weight of opposition to their closure proposal,” they added.
