Security alert in east Belfast closes primary school

THE security alert in east Belfast which forced the evacuation of a primary school has ended.

Police had earlier advised motorists that Belvoir Drive was closed at its junctions between  Dunseverick Avenue and Grays Park.

Army Technical Officers were tasked to the scene.

The area has now been cleared and all roads have been re-opened.

Police said they are investigating whether electrical components found at Belvoir Drive which are believed to have sparked the alert were placed there to cause suspicion.

UUP councillor Michael McGimpsey: “I visited the scene of the security alert this morning in Belvoir.

“It was very worrying that such an incident would happen so close to residential property and force the evacuation of the primary school.  I’m very pleased it has now come to end.”
