Man to appear at Belfast Magistrates Court charged cigarette shop robbery

A 23-year-old is to face a court on Tuesday charged over a Co Down robbery in which the getaway car collided with two other vehicles.

A large quantity of cigarettes was stolen from a shop in Crescent Corner, Ballyhenry on Monday.

Police responded to a report that two men involved in the robbery had made off by car.

Around 20 minutes later, the car was discovered abandoned in the Lansdowne Road area of north Belfast after it had collided with two vehicles.

The car was searched and the cigarettes recovered. A man was arrested a short distance away.

He has been charged with robbery, dangerous driving and possession of a prohibited article.
