Police probe Facebook comments linked to Union flag protest

A MAN arrested in north Belfast by detectives investigating comments made on social media linked to the Union flag protests has been released on bail

The 28-year-old was detained by police on Saturday morning.

He was later freed pending further inquiries.

Belfast Daily understands that senior police chiefs recently met officials from the Public Prosecution Service over ways to prosecute members of the public for offensive remarks made on social networks sites such as Facebook.

The arrest comes as efforts to resolve tensions surrounding the restriction of the flying of the Union flag at Belfast City Hall to designated days continue.

Concerns have been raised over a number of comments made online regarding the issue.
