RESIDENTS in east Belfast have been allowed to return to their homes over a bomb alert.

A suspect device was found in Glenallen Street at Friday lunch time.

As a result, the Albertbridge Rd between Templemore Avenue and Templemore Street as well as Glenallen Street were  closed.

Army technical officers were tasked from Palace Barracks in Holywood, Co Down to investigate.

Avoniel Leisure Centre was made available to residents who have been forced out of their homes while the scene is examined.

The PSNI said the ATO have declared the suspect device a hoax. The area is now cleared and all roads have since been re-opened.
