Stena Line Belfast Giants take on the Sheffield Steelers on Saturday evening

IT will be a packed house at the Odyssey Arena on Saturday night as the Stena Line Belfast Giants face off against the Sheffield Steelers.

The team is buzzing after its 3-2 away win this week against the Braehead Clans in Scotland.

And it is making things uncomfortable for the Northampton Panthers with the Giants breathing eerily down their necks.

It looked like this was going to be an easy win for the visitors as they went three up by the halfway point.

However, the home team hit back to within one and almost took the game into overtime. With the Giants holding on they are now two points behind league leaders Nottingham with a game in hand.

Both teams had chances in the opening period to get the go ahead goal. However, the only marker came for the visitors as Kevin Saurette found the net at 17.12.

The visitors doubled their lead as Saurette got his second of the game at 26.03.

Then on their first powerplay of the game the Giants took a three goal lead as Colin Shields scored at 29.08.

The home side looked down and out at this point however with a delayed penalty call Ash Goldie pulled one back at 32.29.

The Giants ran into penalty trouble late in the game and the Clan got a 5 on 3 powerplay and at 39.26 Robert Farmer made it a one goal game.

With only a goal between the teams the next goal was going to be vital.

With both teams coming close to that vital goal both goaltenders were pulling off some big saves.

As it turned it neither team could find their way to the net and the Giants skated away with the points.
