Police investigate overnight road dead in Antrim

NORTHERN Ireland’s roads have claimed another victim.

A 21-year-old man died after a car and lorry collided near Toome, Co Antrim.

The PSNI said the crash happened on Moneynick Road shortly after 11pm on Wednesday.

The road was closed at its junction with the M22 at Toome but has now been re-opened.

Traffic Branch officer officers have also closed the M22 North/West bound and the A6 between Moneynick and Toome while an investigation is carried into the cause of the accident.

A Roads Service statement said: “Traffic is being taken off the motorway at the M2/M22 junction (Dunsilly).

“Traffic coming off at Dunsilly is being directed towards Randalstown via Antrim and the Staffordstown Road to Toome.

“It may be several more hours before the diversion is lifted and early morning commuting traffic [will] encounter delays.”

Motorists are being advised to seek alternative routes.

Police would appeal to any witnesses of the collision to contact them.
