BELFAST CITY COUNCIL HONOURS TOP FIRMS IN ANNUAL BUSINESS AWARDS

THE cream of the crop in Belfast’s business sector has been recognised at the 7th  Belfast Business Awards.

The prestigious ceremony, organised by Belfast City Council in partnership with Belfast City Centre Management, took place in the City Hall last night.

A total of 11 awards were up for grabs to companies in recognition of the fine work of businesses across the city.

Guest speaker was Enterprise Ambassador and former Apprentice Winner Tim Campbell who was joined on stage during the evening by the Lord Mayor of Belfast Alderman Gavin Robinson and BBC`s Sarah Travers, who hosted the ceremony.

Double honours were bestowed on Titanic Belfast which opened in April and picked up an award for `Best Hospitality Business`. Its Managing Director Tim Husbands also walked away with the title of `Business Person of the Year`.

The `Best New Business` went to the Belfast Cookery School in Castle Street and the `Best Creative Business` Award was won by the `The MAC`.

There was a joint winner on the night of the `Best Social Economy Business` Award with both Ortus – the Business Development Agency and the East Belfast Mission sharing the title.

Translink and Go Berserk, based in Duncrue Crescent, also became a joint winner of `Best Business Innovation`  Award.

The Zip Yard scooped the award for `Best Business Expansion` and Andor Technology picked up the `Best International Trade` Award.

Equinox in Howard Street won the award for `Best Customer Service in Retail`.

Both Queen`s University and Premier Bakeries Ltd in Apollo Road won the `Best Green Business` Award.

Rory McNaughton from Contract Services took the title of this year`s `Young Business Person of the Year`.

Congratulating all the winners and the businesses that entered the Belfast Business Awards this year, the Lord Mayor of Belfast Alderman Gavin Robinson, said:

They also acknowledge the success of new businesses, expansion of existing businesses and business practices which embrace innovation or seek to reduce environmental impact.

“I want to congratulate the individual award winners, businesses in the city that were highly commended  in their categories and all the businesses that were shortlisted for the Belfast Business Awards this year.

“The calibre of entries was exceptionally high once again which is a positive reflection on the exceptionally high standards that have been set for businesses across the city.”

Running for seven years, this year was the first time the public had a chance to vote for the winner of three awards` categories – the `Best Hospitality Business`, `Young Person of the Year` and the `Business Person of the Year` .
