A SUSPICIOUS object which closed a south Belfast street has been declared an elaborate hoax.
A number of homes have been evacuated by police after the discovery of a suspect object in the Connaught Street area.
The item was found close to residential premises on Friday afternoon.
Connaught Street was closed while Army technical officers examine the device.
It was later found to be harmless and the street re-opened and residents were allowed to return.
