STOMACH BUG INFECTION HITS BELFAST CITY HOSPITAL

Vicious stomach bug sweeping through Belfast City Hospital

A VICIOUS stomach bug is sweeping through one of Belfast’s flagship hospitals.

Now Belfast City Hospital has appealed to visitors to stay on their guard after staff noticed an alarming increase in the number of patients suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea.

The Belfast Health Trust, which runs the City, said people should not visit if they have had the bug.

“Please be diligent in your hand washing when entering and leaving wards or clinical areas; please do not bring food on to the ward,” said Brenda Creaney of the BHT.

She reiterated the hospital policy of no more than two visitors per patient.

She also asked visitors not to bring children to the wards, to ensure they did not become ill.

It is not the first time hospitals have raised the red flag over vomiting and diarrhoea bugs sweeping through hospitals in recent years.

GPs have also noticed an increase in the number of their patients, particularly elderly people who have struck down with the bug.
